Winter storm arriving overnight

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A snow storm expected to hit the Chicago area overnight will be arriving earlier than originally forecast.

And the National Weather Service has upgraded the impending weather event from a winter storm watch to a winter storm warning.

The basics remain the same: As much as 8 inches to 12 inches of snow could fall in the Chicago region and Northwest Indiana by Saturday afternoon, with strong winds of up to 50 miles per hour during the worst of it. Now, the winter storm is expected to commence at 3 a.m. Friday, instead of 6 a.m.

Travel conditions are expected to be potentially treacherous during the morning and afternoon commute periods on Friday.

After the winter storm passes, a different kind of misery will follow. Temperatures are expected to plunge into the single digits by Sunday.
