Woman killed in hit-and-run accident on Dan Ryan Expressway: ISP

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A female pedestrian was struck and killed overnight while on the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway.

According to Illinois State Police, the hit-and-run accident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. near 34th Street.

The woman was standing in the inbound lanes when she was run over by a vehicle. The car did not stop after the collision.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

For more than three hours, all inbound lanes at 35th Street were shut down. They were reopened at around 3:45 a.m.

It remains unclear why the woman was walking on the expressway.

State Police continue to investigate.
