Would-be robber shot and killed by concealed carry holder: CPD

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A man shot and killed someone who tried to rob him this morning on the South Side.

Chicago Police said it happened in the 1500 block of W. 82nd Street. A 60-year-old man was outside when a male suspect approached him, took out a gun and demanded the man’s property.

The victim, who has a valid Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card and is Concealed Carry License (CCL) holder, pulled out his own gun, and they exchanged gunfire.

Police said the would-be robber was shot several times and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was shot in the back and left arm and hospitalized in stable condition.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

CPD also investigated a second scene, at a Marathon gas station nearby, at 81st and Ashland.
