Currently, on a supporting run with legends Brooks & Dunn and hot off a star-studded CMA Fest, singer Megan Moroney has been giving fans just a tease of what's to come on her headlining Lucky Tour about to get underway in celebration of her debut album. Grab your tickets HERE.

Moroney's Lucky is out now featuring 13 tracks, the first of which Rob + Holly wanted to dive into being her Johnny and June tribute, "Why Johnny."

"That's a painful one," Megan admits. Written with Conor Matthews, she admits the story of Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash was unfamiliar to her, but after studying up on the timeline of their relationship and the obstacles they had to overcome, "I kind of felt empathy for June and that's what this song is," Megan says. "Asking June for advice, like, 'At what point did you know that you should continue to stick around?' 'Cuz it sounded like he kind of did some things where you probably should have walked away.'"

Megan makes clear, "The song was not meant to put Johnny Cash down. It was more just like, June is a really strong woman for being able to stay with him. It's more about June."

She tells us she was lucky to get to witness Taylor Swift's "life-changing," rained-out Eras Tour concert in Nashville. A "borderline spiritual experience," Megan says, finding how hard Taylor works and how dedicated she is to her fans inspiring for her own journey. "Obviously, she's one of my musical inspirations, so I think everything she does... she's just so smart about everything," Megan admits, taking a note from Taylor's book about including easter eggs in her videos. "I think it's fun to throw those things in there where it might make my fans pay a little bit more attention to the details."

Touching on Megan's breakout single, "Tennessee Orange," it was a surprise hit for her she explains. The "football-love song" was mixed and mastered within days of the 2022 football season, and the cover art was even created by herself on her phone.

The success of the DIY single, however, landed her a record deal. "It's insane," she admits.
