In honor of Women’s History Month, we're celebrating the power of Women in Country by honoring iconic heritage female artists, showcasing the genre's rising stars, and spotlighting today’s hit female artists. Today RADIO.COM welcomes singer Caylee Hammack!
After giving us all a wonderful live rendition of her single "Just Friends," Caylee, an artist who has graced our Back To Back feature in the past, spoke with hosts Rob + Holly giving some details about the work she's been putting into her upcoming album and more.
"I'm starting to produce some stuff for the new record," Caylee explained, "got an exciting song coming soon. Just a feature where I'm doing 'Small Town Hypocrite' with one of my favorite artists." But Caylee's not just producing and writing... she's also tasked herself with creating the cover art for the release as well. "I sign up for too many things, I think... and then I'm like, 'Caylee! Why don't you let someone that knows how to do this do this?' That's how I was with the album last year."
Holly remembered back when she first met Caylee, when she had told her at the time that she was going to "take over the world." It's that ultra-positive outlook that surely helped rocket her into the charts and playlists in the following months.
"Honest to goodness, there are so many moments in my life -- I'm about to turn 27 -- the numbers in my phone are people I never thought I'd even get to go watch them in concert as a kid," Caylee says. "We didn't really go watch concerts as a kid, that costs money. It was one of these exciting things, as I got older I got to start going to these concerts and seeing these people. Now, to know that I got to perform with them, I got to make magic with them -- because that's what music is! It's cool! It's like now we're wizards but we're brothers in our wizardry."
Of all the female artists she's looked up to over the years, Rob wanted to know who Caylee considers her number one? "Ooof, oh my gosh! Alright, I'm pittin' my girls against one another," she says laughing. "Right now in my life, as of today and this week, and just some stuff I've been going through, Ashley McBryde. I was gonna say Miranda Lambert, but she's a hard second. Miranda has been there for me in ways that, never in a million years did the 16-year-old that used to open her set with 'Kerosene,' thought she would get encouragement from the person that she worshiped as a kid."
Caylee continued, "Ashley McBryde is one of those people that, if you ever get to meet her and you have a serious question or something, she will dive in so much and digest it with you, be there with you, and think out everything that she's kind of my problem solver."
Caylee offered some tidbits of advice that she has received from strong women in the past saying, "Be wary of who you let judge you, and tell you where your talent lies, and what you need to say. That was something that Miranda and Ashley both said to me in different words." Her own sage advice for up-and-coming singers and songwriters: "Every bad thing that ever happens to you can one day make you profit if you learn from it and grow, and you tell the story."
