Volkswagen, Honda and all you other "Hot Hatches"…you're got company.
Yes…Hyundai has taken their already well-regarded Elantra hatchback…added a good dash of Sriracha…and elbowed their way into the Hot Hatch Club.
While Hyundai's "regular" GT has a 161 HP 2.0 liter four, the N Line pumps out 201 HP from a smaller 1.6 liter turbo. Mileage doesn't differ much between the two…25 City and 32 Hwy for the 2.0 and 23-30 for the N Line turbo.
The N Line will run you around four thousand more than the regular GT, so in addition to the extra 40 HP, what all do you get for that extra 4K?
Let's start with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic vs. a conventional 6-speed auto.
And as you'd imagine, you also get stronger brakes and a sport suspension with 18" alloys vs 17's. You can also choose a 6-speed manual in the N Line, and if you go that route, you'll also get Michelin Pilot Sport Summer rubber.
The N Line also adds leather, heated front seats, independent rear suspension, upgraded trim, and the ability to add a few more of those luxury / safety touches that we've almost come to expect in a new vehicle these days.
For example, a $3,850 "Sport Tech" package added a big panoramic sunroof, an 8" screen, power drivers' seat, ventilated front seating, 7-speaker premium audio, wireless charging, forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist ( a drivers' attention warning can actually tell if you're not paying attention or nodding off ), stop-and-go smart cruise control, auto-dimming mirror, and Hyundai's Blue Link Connected Car System that gives you the ability to control a number of functions with your smart phone.
So…all in, pick Hyundai's Elantra GT N Line and you've got a genuine hot hatch that has a little more space and offers a few more options than a few of its competitors…plus has Hyundai's 10-year limited powertrain warranty…and brings it all home with a window sticker under 30K.
