Jaguar F
BOB JACKSON | ENTERCOM ATLANTA

I almost lost my "Man-Card".

Yup.

I won't say I was scared, but I was truly startled the first time I really "punched"  this 550 HP machine.

Acceleration?   Oh yeah.   More than I expected.  Now I've driven 500…600…even 700 HP vehicles before, but this Jag knows how to put its 550 HP on the road.  All-wheel-drive helps.  The Jag F-Pace SVR does forward motion in downright abrupt style when asked.

But that wasn't the half of it.  Rather, it was the guttural animal-like roar from the exhaust that really got me.

Driven gently, you've got a rapid transit machine with a gentle burble and a pleasing little backfire from the exhaust.  But floor it and you go through three different octaves of angry wounded animal…"bad"…"badder"…and seriously enraged T-Rex.  "It's a beautiful noise", to quote Neil Diamond.

If you like two-row SUVs…if you can afford at least a little indulgence…and you like the idea of driving something a little different from everyone else, Jag's F-Pace just may have your number.  But as we'll discuss in a minute, Jag's F-Pace SVR is WAY more than a two-row SUV.

The price of admission for a base F-Pace starts in the mid $40's.  That'll get you an AWD 2.0 liter Turbo rated at 247 HP that Jaguar says will top out at 135 MPH and do 0-60 in around 6.5 seconds.  Boom!   If you want a capable, luxurious fairly fast two-row SUV for under 50 thousand…you've got it.

But if you're looking for something to do battle with AMG's and "M"s…you're lookin' for something like Jaguar's F-Pace SVR.

While priced in the ballpark with Porsche Cayennes and Macans, Jag's SVR brings a 5 liter, 550 HP supercharged V-8 to the party.

How fast?  176 MPH and 0-60 in the 4-second range.  And remember that intimidating howl that we talked about.

So you've got blistering speed and angry animal sounds….what else do you get for your 79 thousand dollar base price + another ten thou in options?

How 'bout an 8-speed auto, 22" alloys, heated and ventilated quilted leather, panoramic roof, 10" touch screen,  825 watt Meridian sound, upgraded suspension and brakes, heads-up display, and all the alarms, alerts and assists that you'd expect today.

Interestingly, the "Bad Boy Blue" paint was at no-charge.  (Jag, however, calls it "Ultra Blue Metallic".)

So what have you really got for your not-quite ninety thousand?

Sure, it's an SUV, but in my opinion, Jag's F-Pace SVR is really a roomy and functional sports car for today's successful middle aged men…or today's highly spirited women of all ages.
