KIA SOUL

This is one of the best "Urban Warriors" that I've driven.  Period.

Slightly elevated driving position…room for 5…a user-friendly rear hatch…chair-height easy-in / easy-exit…excellent park-ability…most of the creature-comforts that we all seem to value…30-ish MPGs on regular…almost pot-hole-proof suspension…and thanks to KIA's 1.6 turbo and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, excellent acceleration.

Did I miss anything?

And that's not to say that KIA's Soul GT Turbo wouldn't make a good road car, too.   I just didn't get a chance to get in any cross-country miles in my week-long test.

But as a city car, this vehicle really shines.   Re-designed for '20, KIA's Soul has a little more useable room inside…and more features…but the same quirky attitude that's made the Soul one of KIA's best sellers.

And in spite of the improvements, the Soul's pricing stays reasonable…with entry-level versions starting well under 20K…and even our top-of-the-line GT-Line Turbo coming in under $29,000.

What do you get when you go "all-in" with the GT-Line Turbo?

A 201 HP, 1.6 liter turbo vs. the others' 147 HP, 2.0 non-turbo engine.   Plus a 7-speed dual-clutch auto vs. the continuously variable transmissions in the other KIA Souls.

Plus you get a sunroof, heated front seats and steering wheel, a heads-up display, 10.25" touch screen, Harman-Kardon premium audio, wireless charging, and all of the forward / backward / side warnings that we all expect.

And what else?   Ambient lighting that pulsates with your audio.   Yes…you'd expect something like that from a quirky car…and KIA delivers.

KIA's new Soul GT-Line Turbo…everything that you need…plus just a wee little bit of attitude.
