Gallery 2: Backstage At One Music Fest 2019
We've survived the One Music Fest(ivities)
The curators behind One Music Fest were able to perfectly place the right artist, at the right stage to perform; setting the tone for the weekend. Between Florida All-Stars featuring Trick Daddy, Trina, T-Pain, Trick Daddy, Atlanta’s Summer Walker, Baby Rose, Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane all on different stages made you realize the south got something to say. The main stage, Ford Stage, and BMI stage brought something for everybody between new and legendary artists. The “Ford Stage”, which featured Greg Street’s Mixtape DJ set was one of the best performances of day 1 as he surprised the crowd with some of the best acts that Atlanta has to offer. Sharing that same stage, Three 6 mafia was another performance that held its weight bringing everyone out including Gangsta Boo later that evening. The feeling was nostalgic with a southern Hip-Hip vibe, it had to be the most talked-about walking away into day 2.
Day 2: We were presented with some heavy hitters that took us through a time machine of Hip-Hop and R&B. Seeing Ari Lennox, and Teyana Taylor then Raphael Saadiq to Wu-Tang, DMX and Rick Ross was a day to remember. As everyone maneuvered through day 2, the festival's two most anticipated acts of the night were DMX and Wu-Tang. The crowd scrambled as it reached capacity and barely anyone could squeeze their way to watch the man himself, DMX. As the energy died down for both DMX and Wu-Tang, the entire crowd within the festival prepared for the last show of the evening, which turned out to be worth the wait. OMF also presented One Music Fest Honors for the first time in its history to Atlanta legends Dallas Austin and Jermaine Dupri. The OMF honors were such a great lead up to the last performance of the festival brought to us by an Atlanta legend KP The Great. KP brought out several surprise acts during his 45-minute set. Artists included Waka Flocka Flame, F.L.Y, Trey Songz, Monica, Usher, Rotimi, Lil Jon, Lil Nas X and the most sought out of the evening, Pharrell.
One Music Fest had a great turn out this year, especially for its 10th anniversary. As the founder of OMF gave out the honors he gave us a quick history and said that One Music Fest meant unity in the beginning and still stands by that. This two day festival showed that in a major way. Congratulations to One Music Fest for hitting 10 years, starting in a parking lot with 2000 people to ending up in Centennial Olympic Park hitting 25,000 attendees each day, shows us that it takes time to grow something good, and how lucky are we to have such a festival created and founded in Atlanta.
