The holiday season is always a busy time for retailers because people are buying gifts for loved ones, but after the holidays, the return frenzy can also get a little hectic.
Well, it looks like retailers are changing their return policies and adding new fees that customers won’t get back when making returns. According to The National Retail Federation, nearly three-quarters of all stores now charge some sort of return fee, so check out some of what we found below.
Popular Brand That Charge Return/Restocking Fees
Marshall's: $11.99
T.J. Maxx: $11.99
Macy’s: $9.99
JCPenney: $8
J. Crew: $7.50
In addition to these fees, retailers have also updated the return window for holiday gifts. Check out what we found below.
Holiday Gift Return Deadlines

Walmart: Jan. 31
Target: Jan. 24

There are some ways to avoid getting charged these fees. For instance, if you join Macy' s loyalty program, there are no fees on returns. Plus, customers won't get charged if making a return in store.
To be on the safe side, take some time and familiarize yourself with the return policy of the stores you'll be buying from this holiday season.
