Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos joined Dukes & Bell Wednesday following Tuesday’s Trade Deadline. He says the team has the starting pitching capable of winning a title despite not making any additions.
“Yeah, oh yeah, you gave me a layup, Carl,” Anthopoulos joked when asked.
“Let’s go through the five. Charlie (Morton) has good numbers, Bryce Elder is an All-Star, (Max) Fried is a Cy Young candidate. We have a guy in Kyle Wright who won 21 games last year. You’re talking about him slotting in as your fifth starter. In my view of the postseason you need at least three starters, ideally four, but you need three real, real guys in my opinion,” he added.
The Braves made minor additions by adding relievers Pierce Johnson and Brad Hand, but did not make the big splash for a starter or back-end reliever that many fans were clamoring for.
