Atlanta Braves pitcher Michael Soroka made another start for Triple-A Gwinnett Monday night and was quite effective, going 6 innings allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out five. He is getting close to being ready to rejoin the Braves rotation, but there isn't currently a spot for him.
92.9 The Game Atlanta Braves Insider Grant McAuley, who admits he's not usually a fan of a six-man rotation, does explain that it could end up solving an issue the team could run into based on their upcoming schedule.
"He (Soroka) has had three starts, you can see the progress, this could be happening very soon. The Braves are going to have a string of 17 straight days with games, maybe he could come up and help out," suggests McAuley. "I'm not a six-man rotation kind of guy, but there are times during the season you just need the help to line some different people up, reset some series and have some matchups be more favorable."
In three minor league starts this season, Soroka has thrown 13 2/3 innings and has a 1.32 ERA. His next start for the Gwinnett Stripers is likely to come on Sunday against Omaha unless the Braves could use him before then.
