Could Feleipe Franks have new role with Falcons?

Atlanta Falcons backup quarterback Feleipe Franks was on the field in Week 3 against the New York Giants; lined up at tight end instead of his usual position.

Head coach Arthur Smith was asked in his Monday press conference about Franks coming in for two snaps, and what was behind the new role:

“There’s things that we think that he may be able to add," said Smith. "We think athletically there may be something he can give us at other positions and we’re always going to look to. If there’s somebody on the roster that can help us, we’ll try.”

So, is the reason the Falcons kept three QBs on the roster in order to develop Franks into more of a Taysom Hill-type player?

“Certainly it’s worth trying, you know,” said Smith. "The opportunity, he played a couple snaps at different spots and we’ll see if it grows and we’ve got to evaluate that but yeah, he’s a hell of an athlete.”

"They really do see him being an athlete that can bring a benefit to an offense, and I think they're just trying to figure that out," McElhaney told Andy and Randy.

"That was why they grabbed him when he was an undrafted free agent, they liked his build. They liked his build...and the athletic ability that he had."
