The Falcons may have the most widely debated selection of all the mock drafts as what they will do with the fourth-overall pick has experts with multiple theories.
The question is will Atlanta take a QB at 4, a TE at 4, trade back, or do something different altogether.
Former NFL talent evaluator and current NFL Network analyst Marc Ross breaks down what state he sees the Falcons in and if a QB at 4 makes sense for the team moving forward.
“A quarterback gets to a certain point and they just don’t have it anymore and I see that in Matt Ryan. When you start to say if we do this, if we do that, to make our QB functional, then you know it’s time to move on and that’s how I view Matt Ryan,” says Ross. Right there at No. 4 you’ll have options to move the organization forward, so I think Atlanta is in the perfect situation to strike now.”
So if the move is for a QB, and the 49ers pick becoming more and more likely to be Justin Fields, that would leave the Falcons with Trey Lance or Mac Jones.
Marc Ross also took some time to explain what he sees from Trey Lance and if he'd be a good fit in Atlanta.
“If Trey Lance is the guy it is the right situation for him in Atlanta not to have to play,” explains Marc Ross. ”He does need time to learn how to manipulate the pocket, read defenses better, and deliver the ball on time better. If Lance has to play right away he’ll struggle badly, but if he goes to a situation like Atlanta's and can sit and wait that would be the ideal situation if he is going to thrive.
