The Falcons opened training camp on Wednesday and one position group is making waves early on, the secondary. Returning players like AJ Terrell and even newcomers, Jessie Bates, Jeff Okudah, and Clark Phillips III have all had standout moments. For example, Phillips calling out Drake London for a 1-on-1 which ended in a pick-6 for the rookie corner. So just how good will this secondary be?
Scott Bair, Falcons' Lead Digital Reporter, joined the "Abe-T-L Show" on Saturday with Abe Gordon to break down what he's been seeing from the Falcons during training camp and shared his thoughts on the impressive group.
"I would count on one hand the number of secondaries that I've seen that are as good, in terms of talent, as this one," said Bair who has covered the NFL for 17 seasons.
Bair went on to mention the ball-hawking nature of the unit saying, "These guys get their hands on the football." From AJ Terrell to Richie Grant the Falcons can expect multiple interceptions, deflections, and pass break-ups this season.
The change in focus and production can be attributed to the addition of coach Jerry Gray. Bair stated that, "They attack, they play aggressive...they talk about one phrase, setting the tempo."
