Julio Jones being traded seems like a forgone conclusion this summer. If Julio is gone, who steps up as the number two wide receiver behind Calvin Ridley?
The most logical choice would be Russell Gage, who has been the third wide receiver for the past couple of years. But, is Gage capable of stepping up and producing at a high level?
In 2020, Gage had his best year hauling in 72 catches for 786 yards and 4 touchdowns. But when you breakdown the numbers, Gage did most of his damage as a third wide receiver with Julio on the field.
Gage has a tendency of disappearing in games as well. Gage recorded less than 50 yards receiving in 8 of 16 games. Gage recorded less than 40 yards in 7 of those 8 games.
The Falcons need a wide receiver opposite of Ridley that’s capable of big numbers every Sunday. So far, Gage hasn’t shown that.
Chris and Harry asked Falcons AJC reporter D Orlando Ledbetter if Russell Gage is ready to step up and be the number two wide receiver behind Calvin Ridley. His answer was a resounding, No.
