Is hiring Bill Belichick a desperation move by Arthur Blank?

The Morning Shift gives their thoughts on the idea of Arthur Blank hiring Belichick being a desperation hire

Even though Atlanta Falcons Owner Arthur Blank wouldn’t call the beginning of the Arthur Smith era a rebuild it was a rebuild. Three years later the Falcons now find themselves a quarterback away from being a playoff team at the least if not better, and to help the franchise get the quarterback position right and back into the postseason for the first time since 2017 Blank seems to be swinging big for a coach, and he may be close to hitting a home run as reports are starting to indicate that Bill Belichick becoming the next Falcons Head Coach is imminent.

Belichick isn’t the only option for Atlanta though. The Falcons could take the route of hiring a young promising coordinator like Bobby Slowik or Ben Johnson and use the eighth overall pick to draft their quarterback of the future, but if the Falcons hire the former Patriots Head Coach all signs would point to Atlanta going all into the idea of being in win now mode, and the Falcons would most likely sign a free agent quarterback that could help Atlanta become immediate contenders.

All that being said, would that make the hiring of Belichick a desperation move by Arthur Blank? The Morning Shift answered this same question on the show earlier today.

Mike Johnson and Beau Morgan don’t think that would be the case. “I think desperation is a strong word.” Johnson said. Beau pointed to the fact that Belichick and Blank have a mutual interest. Belichick, who will be 72 when next season starts, is currently in win now mode because he probably won’t be coaching for much longer and Arthur Blank, 81, obviously would like to see his team win a Super Bowl sooner rather than later.

The Bill Belichick hire wouldn’t be a desperation move by Arthur Blank, it would be two guys with a sense of urgency coming together to try and get to the top.
