The Atlanta Falcons (6-7) are entering the home stretch of the 2023 NFL season with a division title still within their grasp. Last Sunday they had an opportunity to separate themselves from the field but instead they lost a home matchup to Tampa Bay. Still remaining are the Panthers (1-12) in Charlotte, the Colts (7-6) in Atlanta, the Bears (5-8) in Chicago, and the Saints (6-7) in New Orleans.
Arthur Smith's squad can make the argument that they should win every game left on their schedule, but is there any confidence that they will? Wes Durham, the Voice of the Atlanta Falcons, joined the Steakhouse on Friday to discuss the outlook of the team down the stretch.
"There is nothing that has happened, that we can trust, when given an opportunity to show our fans in our building that we can separate ourselves [from the rest of the division," Steak said when asking Durham about his thoughts on the remaining schedule. "We're just aren't that team. And we're not the team that can win four straight. We're just not that team."
Durham replied with a different level of optimism about the chances of the team.
"The good news in the optimism side of that concept, is these are four games that you can win," he replied. "You're not playing Philadelphia, you're not playing San Francisco, you're not playing Dallas."
The Falcons haven't won four straight games since 2019, and haven't won three straight games during Arthur Smith's tenure as head coach, but they'll likely need to win at least three over their next four games.
After their loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday, their playoff odds dropped to 31 percent (according to the New York Times) and would jump to nearly 93 percent if they won out.
