On Tuesday, The Atlanta Hawks announced that former All-Star Kyle Korver has joined the franchise in the newly-formed position of Director of Player Affairs & Development. Korver’s primary role will be to implement a development plan for each player on the roster in union with the coaching staff, training staff and front office.
Korver, who spent the 2021-2022 season as a player development assistant for the Brooklyn Nets, makes his return to Atlanta, where he spent the better part of nearly five seasons (2012-17) including his only All-Star appearance in 2015.
“We are excited to bring Kyle back to the Hawks,” Hawks GM Landry Fields said. “He is a tremendous person and someone whose presence will benefit all of our players, both on and off the court, drawing from his unique experiences over his 17-year playing career, as a late-second round pick who later became an All-Star in Atlanta and one of the league’s all-time best shooters”
After being selected with the 51st pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, the two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year out of Creighton played in over 1,200 career regular season games with 145 playoff appearances over 17 seasons with Philadelphia, Utah, Chicago, Atlanta, Cleveland and Milwaukee.
Korver is fifth all-time in the NBA in made three-pointers (2,450) and seventh in career three-point percentage (.429), which includes the NBA record for the highest single-season percentage in the league history (.536 with the Jazz in 2009-10). He is also the only player in NBA history to lead the league in three-point percentage four times.
The sharp-shooter becomes the second member of the 60-win Hawks team from 2015 to join the front office, as former guard Jeff Teague joined the staff as a scout back in March.
