Falcons will have first division test in Week 2 vs Panthers

When the 2026 NFL season begins, the Atlanta Falcons will not have to wait long to see how they stack up against their NFC South rival, the Carolina Panthers, who they will face in Week 2 and have been considered to have had a good offseason with the additions of veterans Devin Lloyd and Jaelen Phillips as well as their rookie class which includes Monroe Freeling and Lee Hunter.

On Monday, 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell, were joined by Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer, who shared thoughts on what Falcons defense may see in the trenches against their division foe, particularly in regards to Freeling. “There’s a ton of pressure on him,” Zietlow said of Freeling having the responsibility to step in at offensive tackle as starters Ikem Ekwonu (pectoral) and Taylor Morton (blood clot) are expected to miss significant time this season

“The first couple of days of training camp, coaches and players alike, have all said, ‘yes, we’re moving him to the right tackle spot,” Zietlow said of the conversation surrounding Freeling in Carolina. “’and yes, we believe Monroe Freeling is ready for that starting role’” Zietlow added, noting he believes Freeling “has to be ready,” due to the Panthers not having “any other options,”.
