Marcell Ozuna hit home runs in both games of the Braves’ doubleheader against the San Diego Padres Monday. Ozuna now has 14 homers, which not only leads the Braves but is good for third most in all of Major League Baseball. Ozuna, however, does lead all of baseball in RBI (41), he’s currently second in slugging percentage and OPS, seventh in batting average, and ninth in on-base percentage.
The Big Bear has easily been the Braves' most valuable player thus far, and as you can imagine he leads Atlanta in all major offensive categories. The Morning Shift explained why Ozuna is already making a case for NL MVP.
“I don’t know why I keep waiting for a drop off in production from him because it’s not coming,” Mike Johnson said.
He’s been one of the most consistent players in the league, he’s in the top 10 in every major offensive category in Major League Baseball, and if you think about it, this was around the time he started to heat up last year, so he’s really been on a tear the last 365 days.
If Ozuna can stay consistent, and the guys around him heat up a little bit, and if the Braves win at the clip we know they’re capable of winning, Ozuna will be a serious NL MVP candidate.
