Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday. He will sign a one-day contract to retire with the team. Ryan last played in 2022 with the Indianapolis Colts when he started 12 games. His legacy in Atlanta will be defined by historic seasons and representing the franchise in the best way possible. Ryan, 38, has since taken his talents to the broadcast booth calling games for CBS.

The Boston College product compiled a 124-109 record as a starter, throwing for more than 62,000 yards and 381 touchdowns to just 183 interceptions. His 2016 season saw him take home NFL MVP honors during which he tossed 38 touchdowns and nearly 5,000 yards. The elusive Super Bowl ring did elude Ryan, however, as the team failed to put away the New England Patriots.

Ryan’s stability and leadership will not be forgotten by the team or the city. He represented the Falcons on and off the field while also being one of the best at his position. Since his departure, the team has yet to find another signal caller that has been able to replicate his production and ability to lead the franchise, even further signaling his importance to the team and its history
