Ever since the Atlanta Falcons’ season ended in January no debate, discussion, or conversation surrounding the Falcons has been more important than the ones pertaining to what the Falcons will do at quarterback. Currently, it seems like the Falcons will either end up signing Russell Wilson or Kirk Cousins, trading for Justin Fields, trading up in the draft to either select Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels, or even staying at the number eight overall pick and draft J.J. McCarthy.

However, there’s another option at quarterback for the Falcons that has been overlooked. Well Chief National Reporter for NFL Network Steve Wyche joined Dukes & Bell yesterday and explained why he thinks Baker Mayfield would be an “excellent” fit on the Falcons, and The Morning Shift reacted to what Wyche had to say earlier today.

“If he’s available the first day of free agency I could see Atlanta being players on Baker Mayfield. He played in a system like Zac Robinson’s remember when he came to LA and he was really good. I mean he came in with four or five games left, started on a week’s worth of practice and was really good, and I think what Dave Canales did with him down in Tampa last year his confidence now is probably where it should be, so I think Baker Mayfield would actually be an excellent fit.” Wyche said.

Baker is coming off his best season as an NFL quarterback, led the Buccaneers to a playoff appearance and a playoff win over the defending NFC Conference Champion Philadelphia Eagles, was selected to the Pro Bowl, has shown he can win in the NFL and be a serviceable quarterback who you could argue is still getting better, and knows the NFC South now after spending last season in Tampa Bay.

Spotrac has Mayfield’s calculated market value at a four-year $108 million dollar deal which comes out to be an average annual salary of $27.1 million dollars per year, and that would be a pretty team friendly deal for any team including the Falcons, so Falcons fans should think twice before turning their nose up at the idea of Baker Mayfield being the Falcons starting quarterback next season.
