Atlanta United finally stopped a team from picking up points at Mercedes Benz Stadium as they picked up a 3-1 win over DC on Saturday and in a conversation with 92-9 The Game’s Jon Chuckery, Felipe Cardenas of The Athletic shared his thoughts on the importance of United being able to protect the home pitch and not allow teams to pick up any points.
“I think was a concern going into this game,” Cardenas told Chuckery in regards to United’s match with DC on Saturday. Cardenas explained that with DC having “surprised a lot of people” with how well they have been playing this season, they have been a dangerous team at times, including on Saturday, when they quickly responded to a Giorgos Giakoumakis goal with a goal of their own to equalize the game at 1-1.
“I think that was the concern and I think that continues to be a concern for Atlanta United fans,” Cardenas continued adding that the three points United picked up in the win were much “needed” due to the fact that there are still inconsistencies that “remain with this team,” however, Cardenas told Chuckery that he is hopeful United will be able to build off of Saturday’s win.
