On Wednesday afternoon Andy Bunker and Randy McMichael were joined by Atlanta Falcons reporter Jason Butt of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, who talked about the role of Falcons President and CEO Rich McKay when it comes to hiring a new head coach and a new general manager for Atlanta.
“100 percent yeah definitely,” Butt said when asked if Rich McKay could have a final say and could turn off top candidates for the open head coach and general manager position.
“So when things are going great, hey everything is great and Rich McKay is going be like, 'Hey everybody I put in place, everything is fine.' But when, historically speaking, if you look at his career arch when things don’t go well he is noticeable absent and is usually in Arthur Blank’s ear,” Butt continued.
There have been several candidates reported to be on the Falcons' radar or already in interview conversations.
New Orleans Saints Vice President and Assistant General Manager Terry Fontenot has been linked to the GM role. Former Houston Texans GM Rick Smith has also been reportedly on Atlanta's list. Brad Holmes, Los Angeles Rams Director of College Scouting, is also reported to be interviewed by the Falcons soon.
