The Atlanta Falcons entered the season with many holes to fill in their roster. Now, after some cap gymnastics, they were able to bring in some new faces on one-year deals. Will any of those new signees be here for the long haul?
Former Falcons' Quarterback, Dave Archer, joined the Hometown Take show, hosted by Dylan Mathews, on Sunday to answer that very question. He has his eyes on a pair of new linebackers with a lot to prove.
Archer pointed to Rashaan Evans and Lorenzo Carter as the two players most likely to get an extension. Stating, "They both come from prideful organization (Alabama and Georgia)."
He also brought up how young both of the players are. Evans and Carter enter the season at just 26-years old. There is still potential in both backers on a defense that will be looking for leadership and production from that position, especially after the dip in performance from Dion Jones the last few seasons.
Dave Archer also brought up that Evans, Carter, and even Marcus Mariota all have chips on their shoulders, bringing up that these guys were all "highly regarded" coming out of college.
Lorenzo Carter will also have the benefit of playing in front of a "home crowd" again in his return to Atlanta. During his four years with the New York Giants he racked up 143 total tackles and 14.5 sacks
Will that additional motivation be enough to fuel a season that earns any of them another contract with the Falcons? The Atlanta faithful certainly hope so.
