With the first week of Atlanta Falcons training camp in the books, one of the overall themes to come out of Flowery Branch is Raheem Morris and his staff have without a doubt, brought a new energy to the franchise. And while many will look to see how the Falcons’ new-look offense will flow with new quarterback Kirk Cousins, there is one player that Steak Shapiro believes will need to prove the Falcons got it right by drafting him.
“If Kyle Pitts has another season like his last three, he will be a completely nondescript Atlanta Falcon,” Shapiro said on Monday as he shared his thoughts on Pitts and how he believes the tight end has yet to live up to the “unicorn” status he was labeled with when the Falcons drafted him No. 4 overall in 2021. As their conversation continued, Sandra Golden noted that while overall in agreement with Shapiro, Pitts did have a 1,000-plus receiving yards season in his rookie campaign.
And while both Shapiro and Golden agreed that they have to acknowledge that Pitts had to also deal with coming back from injury, Shapiro told Golden he believes “it would be awesome” to see Pitts have a breakthrough year as he heads into his fourth season with the Falcons.
