Hawks getting huge experience lift from CJ McCollum
As the NBA playoffs continue, the Atlanta Hawks are preparing to host Games 3 and 4 of their first round series with the New York Knicks with a chance to take a 2-1 series lead on Thursday after evening the series at one game a piece with their come from behind 107-106 win on Monday.
On Wednesday, Hawks’ guard Dyson Daniels, joined 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell to discuss Atlanta’s turnaround following the All-Star break, as they went 20-6 on the back half of the regular season and eventually securing the number six seed in the Eastern Conference, and how the leadership of CJ McCollum played a pivotal role.
“CJ as a leader is kind of what we were lacking,” Daniels said of McCollum joining Atlanta after he was acquired in a trade which sent Trae Young to the Washington Wizards. “With him coming over, he’s just led by example, led with his voice, led on the floor,” Daniels said, crediting McCollum for having “the most playoff experience,” of Hawks among Hawks’ players.
“He knows what it takes. A guy that we can rely on going down the stretch that can go get a bucket. He’s been very vocal in team meetings with what he sees and what he knows and for us guys that haven’t really been there before, it’s gone a long way in helping us prepare for these games,” Daniels said.CJ McCollum filling leadership role Hawks needed
