Falcons still waiting on Michael Penix Jr. to be fully cleared for camp
As the Atlanta Falcons continue with training camp, Michael Penix Jr. remains limited in his participation as he awaits clearance from team doctors, which following Wednesday’s practice, the third-year quarterback stated his next visit has yet to be set, which was a surprise to 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell. “We were hoping for just a little bit more oomph,” Dukes said of his reaction to hearing from Penix Jr. as he discussed his progress towards being cleared to be a full participant in camp.
“All summer it’s been wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Everything’s been wait,” Dukes continued, explaining why he was expecting to here more “confidence” from Penix Jr. in regards to getting cleared and competing for the starting role, which they later explained, they do not believe the Falcons are obligated to give Penix Jr. an opportunity to compete for the starting quarterback role if he is not cleared soon.
“I don’t know if you go into this season and you go ‘we absolutely have to play him at some point because we have to find out if he is in fact going to be the quarterback of the future’,” Dukes said as he explained why he believes with Atlanta bringing in new coaches and a front office, the approach to evaluating Penix Jr.’s value to the team could be delayed due to his recovery process.Michael Penix Jr. continues to work towards clearance to be full participant
