Walt Weiss makes shaky decision with Reynaldo Lopez

While the Atlanta Braves have struggled of late, they are still leading the National League East and are 16 games above .500 at 58-42, and Walt Weiss, has been the recipient of high praise for the job he has done in his first season as Atlanta’s manager.

However, after the Braves’ 8-3 loss to the Padres on Tuesday, 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes explained why he believes Weiss needed to criticized and shoulder the blame for Tuesday’s results. “Walt Weiss has done an incredible job for the Braves. Last night, I did not think he should have kept Reynaldo Lopez in the game to start the fifth inning,” Dukes said of Weiss’ decision to not remove Lopez, who surrendered five earned runs on nine hits, including two homeruns.

“This was the moment when you go get him. I know you wanted to roll him back out there but this was one of those weird situations and it just imploded,” Dukes said. “Walt Weiss has had to manage a team that’s trying to overcome all these injuries, specifically with the pitching staff, and hopefully things get better as guys work their way back, but that was one of those situations,” Dukes said as he expressed concern on Weiss’ not removing Lopez sooner.
