For those unaware, drummer Jay Weinberg, son of Max Weinberg (Bruce Springsteen’s long-time beat man and Conan O'Brien's smiling band leader) is best known for his work with bands such as The Reveling, Against Me!, Madball, and Springsteen’s E. Street Band as well, but he has also served as a replacement for the late Joey Jordison of Slipknot after his passing in 2021.

Weinberg, during a recent break in touring with Slipknot, returned home to a special present from his wife -- a custom-framed piece of Metallica memorabilia that is very close to his heart. "Daaaaamn! My wife surprised me on our day at home with this sick drumhead reframing — with a new addition," Weinberg said on Twitter, showing off two drumheads signed by Metallica’s Lars Ulrich.
"Back in 2004, my dad brought me to my first-ever Metallica gig. Lars Ulrich and the guys were so gracious and kind — and they put on a hell of an inspiring show," Weinberg explained in a series of follow-up tweets. "I distinctly remember telling Lars that night that I was starting to play the drums, myself… I took his inspirational note to heart that night, and pursued a lifelong dedication to music." The 2004 note from Lars that Weinberg is referring to says, "Jay, one day all this will be yours, Lars."
17 years later, he says, Slipknot was "fortunate enough to play our last show of 2021 at RockvilleFest with Metallica... I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to ask Lars to sign one of my personal Slipknot snare heads!" Lars came through once again with an epic note, this time reading, "Jay, how f***ing cool is this??? Life is good GREAT!"
Jay ended his Lars love fest by thanking him for his "kindness and the motivation you give to all heavy music lovers," adding, "the difference it makes is truly immeasurable."
Slipknot is currently on the road with their 2022 iteration of the infamous Knotfest Roadshow tour, hitting North American arenas over two legs this spring and summer. Details, dates, and ticket info can be found right here. And now, here's Jay...
