The Patriots didn't wait long to get in on the action during Day 2 of the NFL Draft.

New England traded with the Bengals to move up to No. 38 overall and selected Alabama defensive tackle Christian Barmore.

He is the second Alabama player the Patriots have selected this year, which naturally makes sense given the Nick Saban connection.

Here are three quick thoughts on the pick.

-- Barmore was viewed by many as the best defensive tackle in the draft, so likely was a case of Bill Belichick and Co. seeing how far he fell and justifying trading up to get him. The Patriots have a number of players on the defensive line, but they can figure that out later.

-- In his one year starting at Alabama, Barmore finished with 37 tackles and eight sacks. He was the starting defensive end in its 3-4 scheme and could play all over the defensive line. He is also very active in stopping the run as well as rushing the passer. Additionally, he forced a team-high three fumbles.

-- The one concern with him is the lack of experience, playing just 24 college games. But, he has tremendous upside. Many project him as one day being a Pro Bowler, which likely made it too hard for the Patriots to pass up.
