The NFC West won’t look the same without Russell Wilson.
The Seattle Seahawks shook up their organization by shipping the longtime quarterback to the Denver Broncos in a blockbuster deal. Now Seattle is entrusting its offense to unheralded signal-caller Drew Lock and not everyone is happy.
During Thursday night’s Seahawks-Bears preseason game at Qwest Field, one fan was spotted with a sign that read, “We need Jimmy G freaky fast.”
It could be a long rebuilding year in Seattle.
Lock didn’t appear in Thursday night’s matchup, but went 11-of-15 for 102 yards and two touchdowns in his preseason debut. For now, there doesn’t appear to be any smoke coming from the Seahawks in regards to their desire to trade for Garoppolo.
Things could change by Aug. 30, when the 49ers will likely release Jimmy G to save $25.5 million and rid themselves of his $24.2 million base salary. Perhaps the Seahawks will try to sign Garoppolo for a discounted rate than his original 2022 paycheck. Seattle currently has $15 million in salary cap room, according to Over The Cap, so they’d likely have the ability to sign Garoppolo if wanted.
Other quarterbacks on Seattle’s roster include 24-year-old Jacob Eason and 31-year-old Geno Smith. If Jimmy G somehow ended up on the Seahawks, that’d be a trip for the 49ers Faithful to see him twice a year.
