A day after a controversial roughing the passer call possibly changed the outcome of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Atlanta Falcons game, the well-intended rule reared its ugly head again on Monday Night Football.
Late in the second quarter, Chris Jones seemingly strip sacked Derek Carr, setting the Kansas City Chiefs up to potentially go on a touchdown run before the half.
Instead, a flag was thrown for roughing the passer, even as Jones tried his best to avoid landing with his body weight on Carr, while trying to make sure he still made the play:
As you can imagine, the call was universally panned, including by perhaps the greatest defensive player that the sport has ever seen:
