Washington quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick suffered a hip injury in the season-opener against the Chargers on Sunday, and it appears he will miss at least several weeks.

So, could Cam Newton be an option?

"And Coach Ron Rivera, who was with Newton for nine years in Carolina — it’s going to be his call at the end of the day — but I’m told the thing to watch is how did things end between Newton and Rivera and other Panthers coaches who are now in Washington," Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio said on Sunday Night in America. "That will be a key factor in whether or not they warm up to the idea of bringing in Cam Newton.”

But later on Sunday night, Florio reported Washington is not there yet with Newton and will go with Taylor Heinecke and Kyle Allen for the time being.

Newton was released by New England Aug. 31 and there hasn't been much interest in him since.
