Rashad Richey Morning Show: Man Wrongly Incarcerated for 27 Years Gives Great Confinement Advice

Former professional baseball player who served 27 years for a crime he never committed came on The Rashad Richey Morning Show to give advice to those going "stir-crazy" from government mandated home confinement.

Jimmie C. Gardner was accused and convicted of a sexual assault crime he never committed. The verdict was overturned decades later for unreliable evidence. Today, Jimmie is a national speaker and advocate for incarcerated men and women.

Due to Jimmie's unique experiences in confinement, Rashad thought it would fitting to have him share ways he maintained his sanity, health and optimism during those years.

Jimmie gave listeners practical tips on how to stay sharp and sane during the COVID-19 lockdown:

  1. Put an order to your day: Jimmie started each day with prayer. Then dedicate an hour of his day to reading, followed by studying the law, something he was interested in. He would spend the rest of his time working out and meditating.
  2. Set a daily schedule: It's important to compartmentalize your day.
  3. Give yourself time to sleep: “Sleep is the most important thing.”
  4. Give back to yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually through self-reflection, daily exercise and spiritual enhancement.

Jimmie recommends everyone take this time to grow, learn and develop.
