The shooting of another African-American man in Georgia has protestors on edge.
Thousands gathered over the weekend to demand justice for 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks, who, like George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, death is also connected to law enforcement.

Brooks, who was unarmed, fell asleep in his car while waiting in a Wendy's drive-thru on University Ave Friday night was fatally shot by a white Atlanta Police officer as he tried to escape.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the shooting on Friday occurred after the police officers responded after receiving reports that Brooks had fallen asleep in Wendy's drive-thru line. The officers attempted to take him into custody after he failed a field sobriety test.

A video shows Brooks struggling with two officers on the ground outside the Wendy's before breaking free and running across the parking lot with what appears to be a police taser in his hand. Another videotape from the restaurant's cameras shows Brooks turning as he runs and possibly aiming the taser at the pursuing officers before one of them fires his gun, and Brooks falls to the ground.

Following the shooting, several local groups organized peaceful protests throughout the city Saturday afternoon, calling for justice and blaming elected officials for Brooks' death.

During a press conference on Saturday, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced that she had accepted the prompt resignation of Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields. Bottoms added, "I do not believe that this was a justified use of deadly force and have called for the immediate termination of the officer." Despite the announcement, many demonstrators are demanding that Shields be terminated.

Later in the day, hundreds gathered at the location where Brooks was shot and killed to cause more chaos. Protestors shut down the highway and set the Wendy's on fire while watching it burn down to the ground.

Crime Stoppers of Atlanta is seeking the people responsible for starting a fire and is offering a $10,000 reward.
