Brenda S. Stinson, Reshawna Banks and Adriene Thornton, joined The Turners to share practical strategies for international travel on limited budgets. The women recently returned from a joint trip to Spain and Morocco.
The guests traced their travel origins to modest beginnings. Ms. Thornton said her single mother took five children on annual summer trips to Florida beaches. Ms. Banks, from a military family, obtained her first passport in high school for a trip to Jamaica. Ms. Stinson began international travel as an adult after dreaming of it as a child.
All three prefer flying to cruising to spend more time at destinations. They recommended using travel agents who accept installment payments, joining community-organized group trips and registering with the U.S. State Department for safety alerts abroad.
Ms. Stinson and Ms. Thornton highlighted the empowerment of solo travel.
“I can’t tell you the feeling that I had when I just saw the land below that represented where I’m from,” Ms. Stinson said of flying alone to Africa while stationed in Switzerland.
“I realized I can do whatever I want to do because it’s just me,” Ms. Thornton said of her first solo trip to Jamaica after friends declined to join.
They also shared favorite destinations including Corsica, Dubai, Niagara Falls and Egyptian ruins. They even shared some Future plans which include Australia, Bangkok and India.
