AutoNSider Review | 2020 Hyundai Elantra GT N Line M/T
So now that Hyundai has quality, price, reliability, safety, economy and style
covered...what’s next?
Performance, of course.
Welcome to Hyundai’s new N Line…available today on Velosters and the Elantra
GT…but almost assuredly the “N” will soon spread across more of Hyundai’s
vast lineup.
We got to test the Elantra version…a compact 4-door hatch that like most
compacts, will seat four fairly comfortably and five if they really like each other.
Base Elantra GTs start in the very low $20’s…and come with a 161 HP 2.0 four
cylinder and an automatic transmission that’s good for an EPA rated 25 MPG city
and 32 on the road.
The N Line ups the ante and gives you a 201 HP 1.6 liter turbo four that’ll only
cost you 2 MPG…maybe not even that. Plus the N Line brings 18” alloys with
summer performance rubber, an independent sport rear suspension, perforated
heated front leather with red striping, front and rear LED lighting, heated outside
mirrors, an 8-inch screen, smart phone connectivity and a few aggressive trim
pieces.
When you add it all up, you’ve got an engaging ride that will serve you well either
around town or on the road.
The surprise? A base Elantra GT N Line can be had for a hair under $25,000.
That’s a very attractive combination of decent performance, economy and utility
for over ten thousand under the price of the average vehicle today.
Our test GT N Line had a 6-speed manual. While a 7-speed dual-clutch
automatic is available, I’m here to tell you that even in city traffic, Hyundai’s 6-
speed stick is smooth, effortless, and yes…fun….if you like that sort of thing.
Once again, if you thought that you had to go to Europe for “something extra”
Hyundai’s new Elantra GT N Line proves that you need go no further than your
neighborhood Hyundai store.
