AutoNSider Review | 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited 2.0T AWD

If you’re lookin’ for a SUV…and who isn’t, it seems…you’ve got a lot to choose from these days.
Virtually every manufacturer is upping their game every couple of years…and Hyundai is no exception. They’ve got quite a handful of SUVs and Sport Utes to choose from
And if you don’t need three rows, Hyundai’s Santa Fe…completely re-designed last year…is worth a good look. But more about those three-rows in a moment.
Meanwhile, here’s why you just might want to put Hyundai’s Santa Fe on your radar:
While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, all my passengers thought the 2020 Santa Fe looked fresh and upscale. But that’s just where it starts.
Space is another reason. The ’20 Santa Fe has plenty of room for five plus almost 36 cubic feet of storage behind the second row plus hidden storage under the floor. And those rear seat passengers will appreciate their reclining seats and their dual USB outlets.
But in spite of the Santa Fe’s interior space, it’s still easily garage-able and park-able.
And that brings us to performance. We got lucky. A 2.4, 184 hp four-cylinder is standard, but we got the 2.0 turbo in our Limited…with 235 HP and an 8-speed automatic. Acceleration was brisk and mileage averaged around 23 with all-wheel-drive. The standard 2.4 liter four should get you a couple more MPGs…and should provide enough “go” for the average driver, tho’.
While Santa Fe window-stickers start in the mid $20’s, our loaded Limited with AWD just touched 40K…which is only three or four thousand over the average price of today’s new vehicle.
But for the $40,000 window-sticker, you’ll enjoy just about every feature and amenity that those folks driving well-known high-end European and Japanese SUVs enjoy.
The Santa Fe Limited delivers 19” alloys, N 8” screen, surround-view, a panoramic roof, 12-speaker premium audio, a heads-up display, wireless charging, Apple and Android connectivity, automatic high-beam assist, rain-sensing wipers, heated and cooled premium leather, a drivers’ attention alert, and more.
And one of those “mores” is unique to Hyundai…a rear-door safety system that keeps your rear-doors locked if the vehicle senses that there’s an on-coming vehicle.
Then there’s the 10-Year / 100,000 mile limited powertrain warranty, your 5-year / 60,000 mile new vehicle warranty, and Hyundai’s 5-year unlimited mileage roadside assistance.
But you’ll hopefully not need any of the above, as most customer satisfaction / reliability surveys now rank Hyundai ( and their corporate cousin KIA ) to be equal to …and if some cases above…anything that Japan now makes.
And back to those three rows mentioned earlier. If the Santa Fe sounds appealing but you really want the three rows…no problem. Just super-size your Santa Fe and go with an XL for a little over a thousand more.
