As good as a L___s?
A few months ago one of the magazines did a feature comparing top trim level mainstream vehicles against luxury vehicles.
Who won?
I don't remember if Hyundai's new Sonata was in the test or not,
but I do remember that the luxury vehicles lost more of the comparisons than they won.
And Hyundai's new-for '20 Sonata would have fared well against any luxury sedan in that comparison test.
Here's why:
The Sonata offers a quiet, soft but controlled ride, plenty of standard features, more than adequate performance…and they wrap it in a new and fashionable body at prices that are less than what is normal these days.
Starting in the mid-$20's, Hyundai's Sonata rolls in with an 8" screen, forward collision assist, pedestrian detection, driver's attention warning, and lane following assist….and plenty of room for five + their luggage. Power comes from a 191 HP four and an 8-speed automatic.
From there you can step it up a couple of thousand for each higher trim level till you get to the still-under-$35,000 Limited. And it's the Limited that will stand up well against any comparison with the average luxury vehicle.
Here you'll find heated and ventilated leather, a panoramic sunroof, 18' alloys, 12-speaker Bose premium audio, a 12.3" monitor, hands-free trunk, LED lighting, surround-view monitor and more.
What kind of "More"? Well…don'tcha' just hate it when you come back to your car and find that someone parked so close to you that you can't even open the door far enough to squeeze in?
Just click your key fob and your Sonata will pull out far enough for you to swing your door wide open…no squeeze necessary. There's plenty of luxury cars that won't do that for you!
Power in the Limited comes from a smaller 180HP, 1.6 Liter Turbo four. In spite of having a few fewer HP than the non-turbo 2.4 found in the lower trim levels, the tinier turbo feels faster than the standard engine.
And as for mileage? Really impressive. The EPA rates the 1.6 at 27 City and 36 Hwy, although I got an indicated 37 – 38 in light around-town traffic.
Need more? Then remember that Hyundai gives you a 100K limited powertrain warranty, five years' unlimited roadside assistance, and complimentary maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles.
Again…compare Hyundai's new Sonata to the average entry-level luxury vehicle and you may just wonder who's callin' who names?
