Mercedes GLC 300

Have you ever driven a Mercedes?

If you have, you probably just want to hear what's up with Mercedes' new GLC 300 4MATIC coupe….right?   And I'll answer that in a quick sec.

But if you're new to Mercedes, you might be wondering what does Mercedes really give you besides that coveted three-pointed star?

In short, unless you opt for a growling, performance-oriented AMG version, most Mercedes will deliver a genuinely "velvet" experience.

And what's that?   It's more of a feel than any single element.   It starts with the leather on the steering wheel.   Perfectly soft and pleasing.   And then there's the ride.   Quiet…composed…comfortable.   No drama…and darned few intrusions into your four-wheeled world.   It's a nicely coddled experience.

But, again, if you've driven Mercedes, you probably already know that.

So let's talk about the newly-redesigned '20 GLC Coupe.   With the GLC SUV being Mercedes' #1selling vehicle in the US for the last several years, Mercedes decided to update a winning formula and "streamline" its GLC.

So the GLC 300 Coupe took the SUV's engine and transmission and substituted a sleek fastback hatch for the squared-off SUV's rear-end.   The result?  A sleeker, sportier look.   It still has an SUV's slightly elevated seating…it still seats five…but now has a functional rear hatch instead of the "Wagon" rear.

Power comes from a 255 HP 2.0 turbocharged four with a nine-speed transmission…good for sprints to 60 in just a hair over six seconds and 21 city / 28 highway MPGs.

Pricing starts right at $50,000 on the nose…and includes heated fronts, sunroof, 20" alloys, Apple and Android connectivity, voice-control, power rear liftgate, power folding mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, Blind-spot, and Mercedes' "Pre-Safe"…which…if it detects that a collision is unavoidable…automatically prepares you and your vehicle for impact.

But in addition to the physical coddling that you get with a Mercedes, you now expect a certain level of technical coddling, too, don't you?

And the GLC 300 4MATIC delivers.

Let's start with the 4MATIC.   Yes…it's all-wheel drive, but AWD designed more for traction and safety vs off-road.

And from there, you can just start adding options and packages until you've personalized your GLC 300 Coupe to your exact taste.   $1,250 gets you a Multi-Media package with live traffic conditions and 3-D maps and Nav updates for three years.

$1,290 delivers surround-view, a hands-free liftgate, and front and rear parking sensors…or it can just go ahead and back you into a parking space hands-free.

And $1,700 more brings emergency safety features like evasive steering and braking to assist you if your GLC senses trouble ahead…as well as a system that will alert you if your GLC detects that you've had your hands off the steering wheel for too long

Those, plus a few more options like a heads-up display, heated steering, heated rear-seats, upgraded Burmester Surround-Sound and an AMG appearance package brought our window sticker up to a little over 65K…and included just about everything that anyone could put on Mercedes' new GLC 300 Coupe.

In short, from tactile to tech, Mercedes delivers what most everyone wants…and a bit more…with their newly-redesigned GLC 300 4MATIC Coupe.
