19 Players on the field all at once?
Yes…It's beginning to look like KIA has SUVs covered as well as a baseball team with 19 players on the field all at once!
And now there's one more. The all-new '21 Seltos is KIA's latest…a compact five passenger two-row with sharp, but somewhat more traditional styling than their more rounded Sportage, for example.
So what makes the SELTOS special? Well, just as with your streaming services, content is becoming the criteria by which we select our vehicles these days.
And this brand new SUV from KIA delivers not only style, but space and a tremendous amount of content for the price.
How much content? Here's everything that KIA gives you for less than $27,000:
All-wheel-drive, 17" alloys, heated front seats, roof rails, sunroof, 8" touchscreen with Apple and Android capability, power heated mirrors, keyless entry, forward collision avoidance, auto high beams, lane following / keeping / departure alerts, driver attention warning, rear cross-traffic and collision alerts, wireless charging, and custom paint.
Again, that's all yours for $26,885…including freight and handling.
Power comes from a 2.0 liter, 146 HP four with a continuously-variable automatic. And if 146 HP sounds a bit light, in "sport" mode it may be the friskiest 146 HP I've felt in a while.
And while the EPA rates the new '21 SELTOS AWD at 27 city and 31 Hwy MPG, I got an indicated 39 on one steady 70 MPG commute. Go figure………..
As we said, the SELTOS is a more traditionally-styled, two-row SUV…a foot shorter than Nissan's Rogue, for example and 4 ½ inches shorter than KIA's own Sportage. But in spite of its modest size, the SELTOS can carry five with ease…and offers a very decent 26.6 cu ft cargo space with the rear seats up…and 62.8 with the rears folded.
Now back to that under 27K that I mentioned earlier. If that's too much, you can still get into an AWD SELTOS in the very low $20's if you just forgo a few of the above amenities….or a FWD SELTOS with a few more extras for the same $21,990 plus transportation. Your call.
And if you want more, you can get a SELTOS with a 1.6 liter, 175 HP turbo and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and premium audio, 18's, and a few more upscale touches for under 30 thousand…and that's about six thousand under the price of the average new vehicle these days.
While all new vehicles take a while to earn their chops, the SELTOS uses the same engine and transmission that they use in a couple other of their other vehicles…and KIA has been making JD Power award-winning vehicles for several years now.
That said, I see only one problem that KIA is likely to have with their new SELTOS…building enough of them to satisfy what I expect to be heavy demand.
