Fulton County Commissioners Reject Resolution to Repeal HUD Decision
The Fulton County Board Commission Meeting was packed again with concerned citizens, community leaders, local politicians, and grassroots activists who came to raise their voices about the commission’s decision to stop accepting HUD funds from the federal government.
While on the show, Pitts said that his new program replaces HUD dollars and would cut the red tape and increase monies available for Fulton citizens who need it.
Pitts said he is going to ask commissioners to approve spending $3.1 million of the existing $5 million in unspent HUD money and he wants to offer cities a quick path to getting the remaining $2 million.
At the end of the meeting, the board voted to approve the budget, and they denied the resolution to repeal the HUD grant entitlement relinquishment. Meaning Fulton County will continue to remain “not an entitlement community.” Local leaders and community activists stressed to Pitts that there will be consequences to his vote, not to accept federal funding in Fulton County.
Pitts hopes that the county can stop taking federal funds by 2022.
