On this week's segment of Law and Legal with C K Hoffler, Juandolyn and CK discussed the violence around the recent protest in the city of Atlanta; they were also joined by attorney, Gerald Griggs. On Point with Juandolyn Stokes invited the City of Atlanta Mayor's Office on the show to share their plans for mitigating the violence, but we did not get a response.
Last Saturday night, violence erupted in the streets of downtown Atlanta after an environmental activist who was involved in a separate protest was killed by authorities. The initial protest took place last week at a planned public safety training facility.  Police report the protester shot a state trooper.
Angry protesters threw rocks and fireworks at the building of the Atlanta Police Foundation and incinerated a police vehicle in reaction to the death of the protester.
Griggs reminded listeners while they do have the right to peacefully protest, it escalates once violence is interjected into the protest. Once a protest turns violent, laws almost always will be broken, which forces a police interaction. Griggs cautioned the importance of knowing the difference between lawfully protesting and breaking the law. They are not the same.
