The Southern Crescent chapter of NWOA, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, has been making an impact in the community since 1975. Ms. Mosley shared that the chapter's mission is centered on supporting the elderly, youth, and women, in addition to collaborating with other local nonprofits to create positive change. Among their many programs, the chapter is known for its commitment to supporting caregivers, providing scholarships to students, and participating in efforts to raise awareness about important health issues such as sickle cell disease and domestic violence.
Recently, the Southern Crescent chapter wrapped up its annual Christmas holiday raffle, where participants had the chance to win either $2,000 or a Louis Vuitton purse. The winner chose the cash prize. Ms. Mosley also highlighted the chapter's upcoming Profiles of Prominence event, set for April 26, 2025, which honors individuals in the community who work quietly behind the scenes to make a difference. These unsung heroes, while not always in the spotlight, are recognized for their extraordinary contributions to society.
As part of its holiday outreach, the chapter also visited Sadie G. Mays Health & Rehabilitation Center, where they served Christmas dinner to residents. In addition, the chapter hosted a Christmas gala, featuring a special reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas by the mayor of Stockbridge. The event also included a toy drive, benefiting children in need, especially those in foster care.
Reflecting on what Christmas means to her, Ms. Mosley spoke about the values instilled in her as a child. Her mother taught her that Christmas is a time to reflect on God's gift to the world—Jesus Christ—and to give with love and without expectation. For Ms. Mosley and her family, Christmas Eve is a special time filled with laughter, games, and togetherness. They wear pajamas, enjoy a festive meal, and at midnight, gather to open gifts. On Christmas Day, the family enjoys a tradition of watching football together, creating lasting memories of love and connection.
