What happened to Chevy’s “blue-denim” workaholic Tahoe?
What happened to Chevy’s “blue-denim” workaholic Tahoe?
It’s now wearing anything from designer jeans to a tux…and depending how you equip it, Chevy’s new Tahoe can legitimately masquerade as a feature-filled luxury ride if you like.
Oh…the Tahoe’s “bones” are just as up to a hard-day’s work as they ever were…it’s just that you might feel guilty making an SUV this attractive work very hard.
So what’s new besides the exterior makeover?
Your ’21 Tahoe will be a little bigger on the outside and inside…6.7 inches longer, in fact…giving everyone a bit more room…and it’ll have even more technology…and upscale options.
Will it still tow your boat? Absolutely…,if your boat weighs less than 8,400 lbs.
A pair of water skis…motorcycles…an ATV…all good. No problem at all.
You’ll still find three rows, with room for 7 to up to 9…depending upon your choice of benches or buckets and captain’s chairs.
And power will still come from an all-American V-8. A 5.3 liter, 335 HP is standard, and a 6.2 liter, 420 version is standard on the top of the line $70,000+ “High Line”…and optional on others. Chevy’s new 10-sapeed automatic is standard with either engine. Our 5.3 was rated at 16 MPG City and 20 Hwy…which is right in line with what we got.
You’ll soon start seeing a 3.0 liter diesel available, too…with a 28 MPG Hwy rating. While we haven’t tested this version in the Tahoe, we had a chance to test a Silverado with the diesel a few months ago, and found it to be a surprisingly eager performer delivering a genuine close-to-30 MPG on the road.
The Tahoe’s increase in length will give you a big 122.9 cu ft of storage with the second and third rows folded. Just be sure to clear out your garage, as this new, bigger Tahoe can be a tight fit if you’ve got shelves, storage or recycling in that garage of yours.
As expected, technology gets more sophisticated each year. Your ’21 Tahoe will have nine different camera views…helpful for both parking and towing…race car inspired “Mag-Lev” suspension that reads the road ahead and adjusts your suspension accordingly hundreds of times each second…and the ability to have ALEXA travel with you, too.
One new extra that Chevy is justifiably proud of is their optional power sliding console…giving you an extra 10 inches of easy to access out-of-sight storage.
Again, Chevy’s new ’21 Tahoe makes “Bigger and Better” more than just a marketing phrase. You may have to move a few things around in your garage, but you’ll probably find Chevy’s
