Lady T's commitment to serving the homeless was sparked by her observations of poverty and starvation during a trip to Nigeria. Upon returning to Georgia, she was struck by the sight of families, including children, living in tents and struggling for basic necessities. Today, she feeds nearly 1,000 homeless individuals each week, providing meals to those living in diverse and vulnerable situations, including under bridges, in parks, and in shelters.
The ongoing economic challenges have affected donations, prompting Lady T to seek additional support as she expands her outreach efforts. She indicated that since the COVID-19 pandemic, the levels of homelessness and hunger have surged, leading to significant increases in the number of people needing assistance.
Lady T highlighted the alarming presence of homeless youth in the community. Many of the young individuals she encounters are fleeing difficult family situations or facing bullying. The heartbreaking reality is that some children are rejected by their families due to their sexual orientation, leaving them with no choice but to find refuge on the streets.
With a small team of dedicated volunteers, Lady T operates her mission largely through personal donations and support from local organizations. However, she emphasized the need for a more stable volunteer base and consistent contributions to maintain her outreach efforts. She operates with limited financial resources, often relying on community members for food and hygiene supplies.
Lady T provides additional support beyond meals. She assembles hygiene kits for individuals experiencing homelessness and distributes items such as socks, soap, and sleeping bags. Furthermore, she offers "kitty kits" for children, which include snacks and toys, to bring some joy to their challenging circumstances.
In her passion for service, Lady T has expressed a desire for broader community involvement. She invites churches, schools, and organizations to join her mission by preparing meals, providing supplies, and volunteering their time. She believes that even small contributions—whether it be a few sandwiches or hygiene items—can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need.
