Light Worker Wayne, a mental health clinician and certified peer specialist, explained the importance of mental health in achieving personal success and overall well-being. "You can't access your fullest potential and get your highest earn unless you have good mental health." Mr. Wayne said. He emphasized that mental health affects not only an individual's emotional state but also their physical and spiritual health.
Mr. Huey addressed the stigma surrounding mental health, particularly in underserved communities. He noted that societal expectations often discourage men from expressing their emotions or seeking help.
The discussion also covered the role of certified peer specialists, a program established in Georgia to support individuals through their recovery journeys. Mr. Wayne described how peer specialists, who have personal experience with mental health issues, offer a unique and empathetic approach to support. Unlike traditional therapists, peer specialists engage with clients as equals, fostering trust and understanding.
The interview also focused on the upcoming "Accountability and Trauma" event scheduled for August 31st at the East Point Hall from 2 to 5 p.m. The event aims to address trauma and promote personal accountability. Mr. Wayne and Mr. Huey plan to explore how past trauma impacts current decisions and stress the importance of seeking counseling and support.
