Aired on Wake Up with Dee Morning Show | News & Talk WAOK 1380 AM

On this week’s edition of Wednesday’s Word on the Wake Up with Dee Morning Show, Dr. Dee Dawkins-Haigler welcomed a dynamic leader whose work bridges the realms of faith, justice, and community transformation—Rev. James C. Woodall, Sr. The conversation highlighted Rev. Woodall’s multifaceted journey as a minister, advocate, and aspiring civil rights attorney, offering listeners a powerful reminder of what it means to live a life of purpose-driven service.

Currently pursuing his Juris Doctor at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, Rev. Woodall serves as Minister of Outreach at Lindsay Street Baptist Church in Atlanta. His role is a reflection of his broader mission: merging faith with public service to address the systemic challenges facing underserved communities.

Rev. Woodall’s commitment to justice is long-standing. He is the Chairman of the New Project Action Fund, where he works to advance racial and social equity through strategic civic engagement. His leadership has extended to the national stage, having previously served as State President of the Georgia NAACP and as a Public Policy Associate at the Southern Center for Human Rights. Through each position, he has championed reforms that center human dignity and civil liberties.

In addition to his policy work, Rev. Woodall’s legal training includes experience with the DeKalb County State Court, the DeKalb County Public Defender’s Office, and the Criminal and Civil Justice Institute, preparing him to be a strong legal advocate for those too often left voiceless in the justice system.

A U.S. Army veteran, Rev. Woodall brings discipline, leadership, and a deep sense of duty to every aspect of his work. He is a graduate of Georgia Southern University and earned his theological education from the Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC). His thought leadership is further reflected in his contributions to national discourse through co-authoring Wired for Racism and appearing in Fifteen Cents on the Dollar—projects that explore structural inequities and the pursuit of justice.

As a fellow of the Aspen Global Leadership Network, Rev. Woodall continues to inspire the next generation of leaders with a message grounded in faith, informed by lived experience, and driven by the unwavering pursuit of equity.

Listeners of Wake Up with Dee were treated to a timely and insightful conversation, reminding us that justice, when rooted in love and community, can transform lives and institutions alike.
